The origin of ‘La Bonne Fortune’ dates back to the 17th century, when the term fortune referred to romantic encounters. Good fortunes were the favours that women granted to their suitors. Later, the meaning was broadened to include favours obtained from an influential woman without a romantic relationship.

Designed in 1968 by the renowned Marie-Francoise Heron, this example is eminently wearable, with the kind of light staining typical of a sixty year old Hermes scarf, and a small slit in the centre. Condition: 5/10.

Marie-Françoise Héron is (was?) one of Hermes’ best known and most distinguished scarf designers of the sixties.
