Hermes Scarf Game Smiles In Third Millenary Very Rare

Something REALLY special for every Hermes scarf collector! An extremely rare and delightful ball game, on a background of Sefedin’s absolutely gorgeous ‘Smiles in Third Millenary’ scarf design. The game, which comes in its box, is presented in an authentic Hermes bag.

The aim is to get the 5 small silver metal balls into the holes

The original ‘Smiles in Third Millenary’ carré was designed in 2000 by Ibrahim Alamia Kwumi Sefedin. The 90cm scarf is signed ‘Kwum Sefedin I A’ and there is almost no concensus as to what, precisely, Sefedin’s name actually is! We have used Genevieve Fontan’s Carres d’art IV as reference and the final arbiter.

The scarf celebrates the arrival of the third millennium with humour and optimism (not to mention a deplorable use of the Queen’s English!) It features lots of smiling faces, including an African hut, and a kind of spiritual runner, joyfully sweeping us into the next century, leaping over birds and trees; all illustrated using coloured chalks.

Hermes writes of Sefedin:

“After his parents were killed in 1997, during a civil war, a then-14-year-old Sudanese boy named Sefedin found his way to a base camp for Doctors Without Borders, which placed him in a school for orphans.

While there, he drew colourful chalk sketches of African landscapes, which eventually landed on the desk of Jean-Louis Dumas.

Dumas, the now-retired chief executive of Hermès, had previously visited the school and asked the teachers to send him the work of any promising young artists.

Dumas hired Sefedin to design for Hermes. He created six different styles.
