Hermes Scarf Raconte-Moi Le Cheval GRAIL Red Barely Worn

In terrific condition, with the weight, sheen and feel of a new scarf, and complete with care label, the first version of this collectors’ favourite Hermes scarf was designed by Dimitri Rybaltchenko in 1999/2000 as a Special Issue to celebrate the 150th anniversary of Harrods.  In 2001/2, Hermes released this version to the general public, and it was re-issued in 2004. There was also a further Special Issue created for the Theodora Foundation, a children’s charity, which was founded in 1993.

This is a rare and collectible scarf that evokes a sense of childhood through its charming, playful illustrations of rocking horses and toys.  While the scarf feels new, we’ve taken it to the cleaners to ensure that some very faint folding lines are eradicated, and you receive your scarf in the best possible condition.  Condition 9.8/10.

As the name, “Tell Me About The Horse” suggests, this scarf is all about the potential wonder of the toy horse. Around the border of the scarf, roughly translated from our ”O’level French, is written: “Rocking horse.  I dream of one in red wood. He’ll be bigger than me. He’ll have proper horsehair. He’ll have jewels for eyes and black hooves like ebony.  His tack will be of the best Parisian leather. But I’m not sure whether he’ll come on wheels or rockers. I want to travel a long way with him.  Which goes further – wheels or rockers? I haven’t got time for all the countries, the battles, the princesses who are waiting for me. You, with all your experience, must help me prioritise…”

Hermes writes: … and I shall tell you of my dreams of being a bandit. The boldness of stout Roland intoxicates childhood which dreams only of merciless combats. The imagination of modern little boys (not forgetting little girls either) is stirred by the arms and armour of chivalric romances. And stirred even more when the dreamer is galloping on a rocking horse. A charger made of wood, papier-mâché, or even fibreglass today, is favoured by mothers, who have fewer bandages to cope with.
