Hermes Tyger Tyger MINT! Crisp, bright, white and black, with box and tissue

The “Tyger Tyger” scarf is one of the most celebrated and highly collectible designs produced by Hermès. We are beyond thrilled to be able to bring this elusive scarf to you! Created by the British artist Alice Shirley, the design was first introduced for the Autumn/Winter 2015 season and has since seen reissued, including a release in the 70 cm format.

The scarf draws its name and thematic inspiration directly from William Blake’s famous 1794 poem, “The Tyger” (“Tyger! Tyger! burning bright, / In the forests of the night”). It features a majestic, reclining tiger looking back over its shoulder, positioned within a dense bed of highly detailed exotic flora, complete with delicate periwinkles, orchids, and ferns. In the background, the subtle silhouette of a palace reminds the viewer of the tiger’s native habitat in India.

Over the years, the “Tyger Tyger” motif has been adapted across multiple sizes and luxury fabrics: Carré 90 (90 x 90 cm): The classic 100% silk twill scarf size that originally showcased the design in its full intricacy. Giant Shawl 140 (140 x 140 cm): A larger, cosy variant crafted from a luxurious blend of 70% cashmere and 30% silk.Carré 70 (70 x 70 cm): A lighter, modern variation often printed on Hermès’ softer, lighter “vintage” silk twill.

Because it is widely considered a masterpiece among modern Hermès designs, original 2015 issues and rare colourways are heavily sought after.

Alice Shirley learned William Blake’s poem The Tyger, written in 1794, as a schoolgirl. Hailed as a forerunner of the Romantic movement, the celebrated English poet and painter was born in London in 1757, and died there in 1827. Once learned, never forgotten, the poem’s mesmerizing power has imprinted the hearts of generations of children. Now a talented young illustrator, Alice Shirley offers an affectionate portrait of the great beast, reclining in gentle majesty on a bed of flowers, beneath a star-filled sky. Specializing in the animal kingdom, Shirley is a regular collaborator with London’s Natural History Museum. Here, in the museum library, she discovered the magnificent collection of botanical illustrations commissioned by the East India Company, including the flora of the Periyar tiger reserve in the Indian state of Kerala. Here, she depicts the tiger at home, in his natural habitat.
