Hermes writes: A curious quartet! Straps, curb chains, harnesses and stirrups are gathered into bright bouquets, like cut flowers. Tassles hang like clustered bluebells, leather straps are tied into bows, spurs resemble starry daisies, bits are looped like flower garlands, and riding crops become calyxes. Horses’ heads, their manes rippling and ringletted, burst from the sheaves like wild blooms. Arranged on horse blankets, folded to show their front and reverse sides, the four compositions are a perfect metamorphosis of fabrics, leather and metal parts. The illusion is complete!

Pierre Marie Agin (born 21 April 1982), widely known simply as Pierre Marie, is a highly acclaimed French illustrator, designer, and self-described “ornamentist”. Based in Paris, he is celebrated for reviving the tradition of the decorative arts by blending intricate storytelling with vivid, maximalist patterns across fashion, textiles, interiors, and glasswork. In 2009, he became one of the youngest artists to design Hermes’ signature silk squares, creating over 30 unique scarves.  His multi-disciplinary practice, Pierre Marie Studio, partners with historic French and European manufacturers to preserve ancestral techniques. Notable collaborations include handwoven tapestries with Aubusson’s, and ironwork with Atelier François Pouenat. He designed the botanical-inspired Chamade crystal collection for Saint-Louis and whimsical, texturised ceramics for Italian brand Bitossi Ceramiche.

Pierre Marie’s work is the antithesis of modern minimalism. He is famous for leaves, ribbons, and theatrical, narrative motifs that completely saturate surfaces. His personal Paris apartment famously functions as a live-in laboratory where every floor, wall, and ceiling is splashed with original patterns, reminiscent of a contemporary shrine to Art Nouveau.In 2018, he opened his namesake gallery, La Galerie de Pierre Marie, located in the 9th arrondissement of Paris, to showcase his custom interior tapestries, lighting, and decorative installations.
