In the deepest midnight blue, this highly prized, valuable scarf breathes sheer quality and sublety, and it’s in pristine condition.

Designed by French duo, Octave Marsal and Theo de Gueltzl, in 2018/19, the foreground comprises massive, vibrant, oversized peony blossoms (corollas) bursting with luxury vegetation, taking over and serving as a sanctuary over the city lines. The composition is masterfully engineered so that no matter how you fold or twist the scarf, the print flows and makes aesthetic sense from every direction.

Hermes writes: Giant peonies, fragile and imperious, rise from a proliferation of architectural forms. In a poetic play on scale, their extraordinary corollas bloom over an imaginary city teeming with detail. Beautiful palaces and vast residences have become the sanctuary of luxuriant vegetation. Octave Marsal and Theo de Gueltzl like to work together, bringing their worlds, their dreams and their visions face to face. The utopian universe they have created is an invitation on a meditative journey. And the magic of this composition is that whichever way the eye falls on the scarf, it always makes perfect sense.

The Retired Librarian writes:  Huge peonies rise up on arching stalks; their petals are finely drawn, as if with pens, then delicately coloured and shaded. Behind them is a fantasy city with complex buildings – arches, domes, stairways and columns – like an architectural drawing in navy blue. There are also hills, mountains and the sea complete with a sailing ship in the distance. Turn the scarf around 180° and another city appears, orientated from this direction. The columns in the centre are the fulcrum of the design with a landscape and seascape surrounding them. The fine work is stunning and magical.
