This dramatic scarf was designed by English artist Katie Scott, in 2020.
Hermes writes:
“The toucan, a climbing bird characteristic of tropical forests, is particularly prevalent in the Amazon. Here, illustrator Katie Scott, who is passionate about biology and renowned for her botanical and animal plates, presents an imaginary species. The birds chirp proudly – no doubt heralding a song that will make them the kings of the woods! Their decorative plumage, characteristic of the bird-of-paradise and the peacock, underlines their rarity and the exotic inspiration of their designer. These elements combine to form a marvellous painting tinged with naturalism.”
Katie Scott graduated from the University of Brighton in 2011, coming to public attention for her illustrations of the Bombay Bicycle Club. Since then her hand-drawn fine line work and digital watercolouring have found their way into people’s homes, whether through posters, wine labels, newspapers or wallpaper. Her preoccupation with the natural world was allowed to run wild with the publication of her first book, Animalium, which in 2014 was awarded the Sunday Times Children’s Book of The Year.
